May Day Solidarity: Educators Network for Social Justice

The Educators Network for Social Justice (ENSJ) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin stands in solidarity with the Seattle teachers boycotting the MAP tests. We are inspired by your brave, collective refusal to submit to the tyranny of high stakes testing and your momentous action in standing up for your students. As fellow educators we too believe that the overuse of these tests only serves an agenda of corporate reform--one that narrows the curriculum, wastes valuable resources and only strengthens current racial and economic inequalities. We thank you for your example of how we as teachers can reclaim our work by first saying no to harmful practices so that we can embrace a more meaningful, child-centered pedagogy.
